Transportation to Nusa Penida from Bali

There are four daily departures of the ferry from Bali to Nusa Penida: at 8 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 16 p.m., and 17 p.m. Depending on the waves, the boat ride might take anything from 30 minutes to an hour.

The lack of a port in Nusa Penida means that visitors must remove their shoes before boarding and disembarking the boat. Members of the boat crew will gladly assist you with your bulky bags.

It's useful to note that the "Day of the Silent Ocean" occurs on a different day each year. Be sure to do some preemptive Googling on this.

To get there from one of the other Nusa Islands, such as Lembongan or Ceningan, takes just around 15 minutes on the water. Private boats may be rented at Mushroom Bay.

Getting around Nusa Penida

On Nusa Penida, a motorcyclist may cover the island's relatively short distances in as little as 60 to 90 minutes. We previously recommended motorcycling, but not on the new highways built in 2018. There are frequent motorcycle accidents because of the limited roadways and reckless drivers.

  • By car

By automobile, you may take your time and enjoy the scenery as you drive around the island. Spend the night atop Penida, where you can see both west and east, or go back to Bali in a day.
  • By motorcycle

However, motorcycling is unquestionably the best method of moving around if you are a skilled rider. Motorcycle rentals at the port start at 60,000 IDR ($4 USD) for 24 hours.

What else do you need to know before your trip?

As there are times when you won't have access to WiFi or 3G on Nusa Penida, downloading Google Maps offline will ensure that you can always make your way back to your hotel. With these brand-new roadways, driving is far less hazardous and much more pleasant. For a few days, you may hire a driver.

Nusa Penida's remarkable growth in visitor numbers may be attributed to the island's stunning natural beauty. The whole island now has new gravel roads, and two ATMs are available. Nonetheless, the new routes are quite congested and small, so novice motorcyclists should avoid them.

Accommodations in Nusa Penida are among the best in Bali

Most Nusa Penida hotels are found in the island's western and northern regions. Since traveling from one end of the island to the other takes no more than an hour, we advise selecting a single hotel for your whole stay.

Nusa Penida has a wide variety of lodging options, including homestays, guesthouses, and lovely bungalows. Demand from tourists has caused prices to rise somewhat in comparison to Bali. Pre-arrangement of lodgings is highly suggested.
